Fuel Right, Run Light: Do’s & Don’ts for TSEC Marathon Week Blog 1

The last week before a race is not about running harder — it’s about running smarter. What you eat and drink now will decide how much energy you carry to the start line. Think of food as your fuel (like petrol for a car) and hydration as your cooling system. If we get this right, our body will feel light, strong, and ready to enjoy the 5km or 10km run at the TSEC Marathon 2026.

1. Last week: Build Energy, Stay Light

Do’s

  • Eat balanced meals: 60–70% carbs, moderate protein, light fats.

  • Hydrate regularly: sip water throughout the day, add electrolytes if sweating a lot.

  • Stick to familiar foods — rice, chapati, dal, fruits, vegetables.

Don’ts

  • Don’t try new foods or supplements.

  • Avoid oily, spicy, or junk food.

  • Don’t over drink water — balance with salts (electrolytes)

2. Day Before Race: Keep It Simple

Do’s

  • Eat a carb-rich dinner (like rice + dal, pasta, or poha).

  • Drink water steadily, not too much at once.

  • Prepare your race-day breakfast in advance.

Don’ts

  • Avoid heavy, late-night meals.

  • Don’t skip dinner — your body needs fuel.

  • Don’t panic if you feel nervous — trust your preparation

3. Race Morning: Light & Familiar

Do’s

  • Eat a light breakfast 2–3 hours before the run (banana + toast, poha, or oats).

  • Drink a glass of water with electrolytes.

  • Carry a small sip of water if needed before the start.

Don’ts

  • Don’t try new foods on race morning.

  • Avoid heavy meals — they slow you down.

  • Don’t gulp too much water right before the run

4. During the Race (Hydration Strategy)

Do’s

  • Sip water at aid stations — small amounts are enough.

  • If running 10K, one electrolyte sip mid-race can help.

Don’ts

  • Don’t drink too much at once — it can cause cramps.

  • Don’t skip hydration completely — small sips keep you steady.
