Welcome back, runners! In Blog 1: Fuel Right, Run Light we learned how food and water give energy. In Blog 2: Rest Right, Run Bright we saw how sleep repairs the body and calms the mind. Now, in Blog 3, we focus on stretching and light strength work. Stretching means gently moving muscles to make them flexible (easy to bend). Strengthening means simple exercises that keep muscles active without making them tired. This balance will help you feel loose, strong, and ready for race day.
🔹 1. Why Stretching Matters
Keeps muscles flexible (not stiff).
Helps prevent cramps (sudden painful tightening of muscles).
Improves stride (the way you move your legs while running).
Makes you feel light and confident.
🔹 2. Dynamic Stretches (before a run)
Leg swings (move legs front-back and side-to-side).
Arm circles (rotate arms in big circles).
Hip openers (move knees outward while walking).
Ankle rolls (rotate ankles slowly).
👉 Do these for 5–10 minutes before a jog or walk.
🔹 3. Static Stretches (after a run or before bed)
Hamstring stretch (bend forward to touch toes).
Calf stretch (push heel against wall).
Quad stretch (hold ankle behind you while standing).
Neck and back stretch (bend gently forward and sideways).
👉 Hold each stretch for 20–30 seconds, breathe slowly.
🔹 4. Light Strength Exercises (2–3 times this week)
Glute bridges (lie down, lift hips up).
Wall sits (sit against wall without chair).
Calf raises (stand on toes, then lower).
Plank (hold body straight like a board).
👉 Do small sets, no heavy workout. The goal is to activate muscles (wake them up), not to tire them.

We will talk about pacing (running at the right speed), race-day mindset, and how to finish strong without burning out.
Closing Paragraph
Stretching and light strength are like the final polish before the big day. They keep your body flexible, your muscles active, and your mind confident. Remember: Don’t overdo it. Just a few minutes each day is enough. You’ve fueled well, you’ve rested well — now stretch and strengthen to stay race-ready. See you shining at the start line of the TSEC Marathon 2026!
